Industrial X-ray Inspection & CT Scanning Services
On-Demand Access to Industry-Leading CT Experts and X-ray Scanning Services
Digital Radiography (DR) and Computed Tomography (CT) is a non-destructive testing (NDT) method used to evaluate and measure the internal structure of parts, components, and materials without causing damage.
Owning and operating X-ray CT systems can be expensive and require highly trained personnel. Gain access to the most advanced equipment and industry-leading experts through hiring us by the hour (DR), per scan (CT), or on a project basis.
What’s your challenge? We have the solution
Already use X-ray or CT inspection, but lack capacity and can’t keep up? Don’t have the right equipment in-house for a particular imaging need? Short on trained staff?
Whether you have limited resources or a sudden increase in inspection demand, you can count on our expert inspection services for your overflow capacity and urgent projects. We provide On-Demand Inspection access, from x-ray sorting projects that run 24/7 to difficult to scan parts with unique challenges.
You can rely on us to develop new imaging techniques and make determinations on standards conformance (e.g. ASTM E2698/E3375, AWS D20.1, SAE AMS2175, or similar internal standards). We can even scan very large and dense parts with our High Energy MeV systems.
Make Our Experts Your Experts
High-level CT experts are hard to find. We are often called upon to be a part of our client’s Research & Development (R&D) and Quality Assurance (QA) teams. North Star Imaging is renowned in the Aerospace and Defense industry for obtaining the best quality image possible for mission-critical parts.
Our experts are trusted worldwide by the military, at top tier universities, and at Fortune 500 companies. North Star Imaging personnel contribute to setting industry standards and by serving on committees worldwide in organizations such as ASTM, ASNT, AIA (NAS-410), and NDTMA.

Non-Destructive Testing & Quality Assurance
Digital Radiography (DR) is a real-time 2D X-ray imaging method with uses an X-ray detector instead of film. DR is quick, efficient, and effective for many routine inspections, especially when surface defects or simple internal features need to be checked. It’s ideal for inspection of a few components or as a cost-effective solution for high-throughput inspections.
Computed Tomography (CT) uses X-rays to create detailed cross-sectional images (slices) of an object, which can be reconstructed into a 3D model. This provides a complete 3D representation of the internal and external structures of an object, making it ideal for complex components and thorough defect detection. CT scans can be used to measure internal dimensions and geometries accurately.
Industrial DR & CT Applications
Industrial DR and CT are used across industries for many types of parts and materials. Examples include Additive Manufacturing, Polymers, Composites, Metals/Alloys, Electronics, Batteries, Castings, Welding/Soldering, Medical Devices, Automotive Parts, Explosives & Ballistics, and Consumer Products.

- Detail and Dimensional Accuracy: Industrial CT provides highly detailed 3D images and is capable of precise dimensional measurements, whereas DR provides 2D images and is more suited for surface/subsurface defect detection.
- Complexity of Analysis: Industrial CT is better suited for analyzing complex internal structures of parts can components, where accuracy of conformance is critical. DR is often used for simpler, faster inspections for determining voids, cracks, contamination, and foreign material.
High Energy Scanning for Large Parts, Thick Objects, and Dense Materials
High-energy CT scanning is needed when dealing with large, dense, or thick objects. Lower energy X-ray and CT methods can be insufficient to penetrate the material and provide the necessary resolution and detail. North Star has 9MeV and 6MeV systems available for your large parts and complex imaging needs. Check out the various industry applications that are ideal for our High Energy MeV Scanning Services.
