Inspection Services Manager

In the fall of 2015, NSI opened an Inspection Services and systems demonstration lab located at 16170 Scientific Way in Irvine, California. Now that the paint is dry and the construction complete, we were fortunate to host the first of many open house events on February, 24th as well as an overflow event the following week. The event was put on in conjunction with Instron, our sister company, who makes world class material testing systems. Attendees were hosted and saw presentations from NSI on CT scanning of additive manufactured parts as well as live demos of digital X-ray and CT scanning technology. Instron presented on material testing and provided technical demonstrations of several Instron machines and capabilities.

The NSI demonstrations included 4D CT scanning and Vortex, some of the most recent advances in digital X-ray and CT technology, while highlighting the easy to use software. Greg, an ISG technician in CA, even showed the group how he can use the CT data of his injured hand from his doctor, put it in the NSI software and see 3D images of his hand with the capability of slicing through the image to see every bone and detail.

The customer base and attendees for NSI are quite broad with aerospace, defense, electronics and medical device representing a large portion of the turnout.

The office in Irvine is set up with two X5000 systems with the intention of providing contract inspection services to the west coast market. The X5000 is the most versatile system offered by North Star Imaging. The system boasts a large scanning envelope and excellent ergonomics for loading sizable objects while still maintaining the sensitivity to inspect even the smallest of items in the single digit micron range. With this investment in new technology as well as our experienced team, we can handle a variety of projects from single sample scanning to 100’s or 1000’s of parts.

The entire NSI team and I are thankful for the positive response as we have expanded in to this new west coast office and look forward to the opportunity’s to serve our existing and new customers in years to come.
